Fail Weekend Introduction

I would say the one that I didn't do right is to have partnered with a friend without any signed agreement back in 2005 and first time collaborate with 'close friends', which led to them not doing anything and hence me firing them and then they took me to court, Even though they lost, I paid the price (as they didn't have $ to pay back).

Woof Johnny K. Wu - I have been there! Working with friends can be tough - but setting expectations and having agreements ahead of time can save you SO much trouble down the road. Thank you for sharing!

Always have agreement is super important. this has taught me a good lessen, and an extensive one.

Brianne Berkson

oooooof, hard but important lesson to learn for sure!

Contracts, contracts, contracts. Everyone worries about representation. Having a solid entertainment attorney in your contact list is worth its weight in gold. Sorry you went through this, Johnny, but happy to hear you've grown from it.

totally, expensive lesson, first time collaborating with someone back in 2005, not anymore, everything need to be written/have contract, etc.

Jill A. Hargrave

I'm amazed to find out that many writers do NOT have a contract with their agents. I found this out when I didn't like an agent's boiler-plate contract and started to research writers for examples of their agents' contracts.

John Radtke

I hate to say it but handshake deals mean nothing. Get it on writing otherwise things will fall apart as it did with my short film.
