Film industry's depiction of Italian-Americans as low class, dangerous, racist thugs.

After seeing GREEN BOOK and Viggo Mortenson's buffoonish portrayal of Frank Vallelonga (why wasn't an Italian-American cast?), I couldn't help but ask how screenwriter and son Nick Vallelonga allowed that to happen.

Here's an exceptional short article about Hollywood's hypocrisy when it comes to Italian-American characters.

the family of the real Don Shirley also voiced issues with the way Green Book was written and directed. i didn’t see it, but one of the complaints i read questioned why the story was told through the eyes of Tony Lip and not the real victim of racism (Shirley). the family also complained that Shirley was portrayed as being naive and always requiring assistance. stereotypes of any ethnic group are just disgusting, and Hollywood is great at perpetuating them.
