Nice to meet you Tom Scurlock so important to have more movies, plays and books featuring neurodiverse characters to reflect society more realistically. What drives your interest in this topic?

Nice to meet you too, Tom Scurlock. Yeah, I think it's gonna be a really close Championship game. What are you working on?

Alexandra - nice to meet you. What drives my interest is my 17 year old son who is autistic. I am writing a TV Comedy loosely based on our experiences. Think Family Ties meets Saved by the Bell meets Ted Lasso.

What are you working on?

I'm rewriting two feature scripts and writing a short script, Tom Scurlock.

Hi Tom Scurlock! I grew up in DC, great city. How long have you been living there? And it's so heartening to hear that you are drawing such inspiration from your son and your family.

Welcome, Tom Scurlock! I love that you champion neurodiverse characters in your work. That kind of representation is so important, and it’s exciting to see you getting recognition for your scripts. Also, what a cool background in sports journalism! I imagine that experience brings a sharp eye for detail and tension that translates beautifully into thrillers and character-driven stories.

I’m curious, how has your time as a sports journalist shaped the way you approach screenwriting? Are there storytelling techniques or habits from that world that you’ve carried over?

Thanks Ashley. Great question. Covering/writing about sports has helped me a lot in screenwriting, especially around the importance of outlining, writing/editing quickly, doing background research, identifying and capturing the emotional heart of a game, team, player, or league which becomes the foundational thread of a story, building a brand to grow and engage audiences and character development. Athletes, coaches, administrators and executives are all characters playing a role in their sport. I have not reached out to the Success Team yet but will today. I definitely need the help and guidance.
