I've been a professional writer for more than 20 years but now I feel like I've finally gotten it right. Sometimes, the only way to learn something is through experience; now I have more than enough! Yesterday, I found out my screenplay Secret Library was selected as a semifinalist for Best Screenplay by the New York Cinematography Awards - so I think I'm finally getting things moving.
Since I was nine years old, I've been writing short stories, books, plays, screenplays, and a massive amount of non-fiction (e.g. legal, historical, academic). Through my online writing experience, I learned that nothing can replace hard work. Earning my BA in English took 17 years of classes (online, in classrooms) and two years of law school was exhausting. But I wouldn't trade any of it because it helped me become a versatile, succinct, experienced writer.
After raising my five amazing children (all grown, now!) I finally have all the time I need to exclusively focus on my craft. A lifetime of watching movies, reading tens of thousands of books, and devouring all sorts of TV shows has taught me what works - and what most definitely doesn't - in this rapidly changing world. It took me a year, but I finally have thousands of Facebook and Instagram followers and my own photography website. I'm so grateful for all the trials and errors because it helped me understand how vital an online presence is and how important social media has become.
I'm excited to see what Stage 32 has to offer and get to work!!

Congrats on your Screenplay semi-finalist win! Writing in Maui must be full of inspiration and joy...! Are there any good screenwriting retreats that take place there?

Good for you. All the best.
Thank you so much, Rowen! It truly is amazing to write and photograph here in Maui, but I really miss my seven grandchildren so I'm looking forward to seeing them again in May. There is one retreat that I know of, here: https://www.pariswritersconference.com/store/p25/MauiWritersRetreat.html
Hope you have a lot of luck here on Stage 32!
Thank you Madeleine! All the best to you, as well!
