I've been intending to get involved with one of these Introduce Yourself Weekends for as long as I've been frequenting Stage 32. Finally... Had to pull the trigger!
I'm a lifelong musician with a new interest in film composition. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to write the score and sound design for a documentary about the Chesapeake Bay 5 years ago. Since then, I've been educating myself and compiling new ideas.
I haven't yet found another project, but I'm ready.
Good to meet you, Jim Westlyn, and congratulations for pulling that trigger! Wow, that's so cool - what instrument(s) do you play? You should definitely check out the Composing Lounge, meet some like-minded creatives: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/composing Maybe ask for some advice on how to get on more projects?
Oh, hey! I see you're in Richmond! There's definitely lots of local work, for television at least. I used to live in DC and Richmond/VA Beach has (or at least had) a thriving community there.
Hey Kay: Thanks for all the info!
I'd like to get more involved in this community - and one's like the Composing Lounge. It's tough to find the time to invest, though.
I'm primarily a guitarist, but I end up using a piano/keyboard for much of my composition work.
I think I'll go an accept your network request and find out more about you.
I have written parts of two muiscals, but not able to afford a composer for the music. If you're interested, let me know. One is a football version of Damn Yankees and the other is about a city that existed in FL before it was a state and was wiped out by yellow fever and a cat 5 hurricane called St. Joseph.
Hey Jim: It's great to make your acquaintance. I think my compositional style wouldn't lend itself very well to the musical. (In fact, I've never really thought about it!) Good Luck with all your projects!
