Lex Enjoy Another Introduce Yourself Weekend!

We find ourselves at another Introduce Yourself Weekend and, as usual, there is a theme. Fair warning, though...this one is a really hard one. I'm not even sure Google would help with this one...though IMDb might. So...I'm awarding 87 points if you correctly guess the theme. The rules are pretty CLEAR CUT to me...

Took me quite a while to create this post...seems like it took me 400 DAYS. So, leave your guesses as to the theme down below! Clearly I had some TIME TO KILL... Good thing I had an energy drink to give me some pep...Red Bull gives you WINGS...

My name is Doug Kayne, and I'm a writer, comedian, actor, and all-around smart-ass hailing from the Los Angeles area. I'm one of the members of the unscripted comedy group, Those Four Misfits (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com), which provides laughs-a-plenty on a somewhat-monthly basis. In fact, our next show (which will be somewhat Star Wars-influenced) will be on Friday, March 2 at the Whitmore-Lindley Theater in North Hollywood. Other shows have had different themes -- maybe one day we'll have a Rocky Horror-themed one...guess I'd better start learning the dance to The TIME WARP...

I've also had the good fortune to have my very first screenplay, Romantic Comedy 101, be made into a made-for-TV movie way back in 2002 (which got me into the Writers Guild). Done quite a bit of writing since -- got to prove I'm not THE FLASH in the proverbial pan, right? Right now, I'm working on the finishing touches to the pitch packet and series bible for my sci-fi comedy series, Going Commander. I'm including a small little teaser with this post. I'd love to be able to share it with you on a streaming service (especially if I get to play the part I wrote for myself -- a guy can dream, can't he?) WHATEVER WORKS to get it made, right? I mean, it's CONCEIVABLE that it could happen. It would leave me SPEECHLESS if I was able to get it made to match my vision.

I've played many roles onstage, like Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Ben Gunn in Treasure Island, Officer Klein in Arsenic and Old Lace, and a bunch more. I've also had the good fortune of being in short films and web series (including ones I've written as well), and just finished filming a key scene in a feature film that is in the post-production stage. THE BOYS and girls I've worked with have been great!

I'd love to connect with and work with all sorts of SUPER FRIENDS so we can get our projects made. Feel free to reach out! After all, when it comes to success, EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!

I hope you got this far. And I hope I understood THE ASSIGNMENT. Hmmm...maybe next time I'll do a theme surrounding Popeye...HOW GREEN IS MY SPINACH, anyway?

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Doug Kayne. Is the theme something about superheroes?

Doug Kayne

You’re on the right track, Maurice Vaughan

Geoffroy Faugerolas

Doug Kayne Amazing achievements, Doug! I’m sure your stage background is of tremendous help when crafting compelling roles and narrative. Are you writing an ensemble comedy?

Doug Kayne

Geoffroy Faugerolas Thanks! It is most definitely an ensemble comedy, filled with flawed characters, humor, action, relationships, humans and non-humans, and a healthy dose of profanity.

Maurice Vaughan

I got nothing else, Doug Kayne. Haha

Doug Kayne

We’ll see if someone can get it, Maurice Vaughan. In your defense, this is probably the hardest one I’ve done. There’s layers to it.

Ashley Renee Smith

Doug, this post is absolutely chef’s kiss. I was grinning all the way through and the themed Easter egg hunt? Brilliant. It took me about 20 minutes and I second guessed myself a few times, but… challenge accepted. All of the ALL CAPS titles you mentioned all appear to be the titles of films or TV shows featuring DC comics stars, right?! Time Warp was Adam West, 400 Days had Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, and Tom Cavanaugh in it, Clear Cut had Tom Welling, The Flash and Super Friends were DC shows, etc.

That would make sense considering your subtle references (and maybe not-so-subtle Super Friends nod). Am I onto something? Because if I got that right, I’m cashing in those 87 points and redeeming them for eternal Stage 32 street cred.

Thanks for the laugh and the brain workout. Either my DC obsession will serve me well today or it’s distracted me from the real answer. LOL!

Doug Kayne

Ashley Renee Smith First of all, amazing job going down the Easter Rabbit Hole I laid out. However, I’m giving you 75 of the points on a technicality. All of the clues in all caps do feature actors who have played DC characters…but which one? There is a specific character in mind… I was inspired on Friday to construct this post…that may be a hint.

Ashley Renee Smith

Ah, Superman is the more specific character overlap.=)

Doug Kayne

Correct, Ashley Renee Smith! They all star someone who has played Superman, either in animation or live-action. Collect your 87 points (which also matches the number of years ago Superman debuted, in Action Comics #1 in 1938). Looks like I’m not your Kryptonite this round.

Ashley Renee Smith

I'm so excited to have figured it out, Doug Kayne

Nick Phillips

This was a particularly good one Doug Kayne!

Mark Deuce

Nice!!

Doug Kayne

Thank you, Nick Phillips

Thanks, Mark Deuce
