Music Video Directing

I want to direct music videos professionally. Not exactly sure what the path is to get there. Anyone know the way? Please be more in depth than plainly saying shoot local artist. I've done that/ am doing that now.

Show up at film festivals and meet other people who are at a different level doing what you want to do. get to know them. Ask them questions. Offer your time.

There is no one way, nor is there a simple path. It sounds like you're already doing the right thing, now you just have to go where your tribe is and start showing them your work.

Take it from someone who's produced 15 pictures - seven of which are features - and directed five, including a short that qualified for the Oscars: This Business is a HUSTLE. You have to HUSTLE. Joleene is absolutely right about attending Film Festivals, especially the ones that have a music video competition and I already know some that do. DO YOUR RESEARCH and find out which ones do. Yes, shoot the local artists. Do a GREAT job and get repeat business. Research bands and artists - both local and national, large and small - and send query letters. Watch music videos you like on YouTube and contact the bands to offer your services on their next one. Give affordable quotes. Network, Network, Network. And, then, after that, do some Networking. Google bands, artists, managers. There are things you can do. Now go out and Break Some Legs! GOD BLESS and STAY FRESH! <3
