Good morning one and all.
I am a self-employed artist and prop maker based in Suffolk, UK. I have been a professional artist since 2010 and my chosen medium is non-ferrous metal. Though most of my pieces are mixed media.
When left to my own devices, my work is inspired by my two main interests.
1. Pre-Twentieth-Century technology.
2. Legend and folklore. Especially that pertaining to mythical creatures, the mysterious and unexplained.
I have several media credits to my name. Most recently I worked on the Detectorists Christmas Special where I was asked to design and build a series of mechanical boxes that would allow the main MacGuffin to perform for the end scene.
If you need a prop maker, give me a call.

James Ewing Very interesting. Check out my profile and send me through a network request if you like. I can send you some contacts in the local UK film scene for networking. As well I have some unusual projects under way this year and it would be interesting to have a real artist involved with some of the more arcane aspects...

Thank you all very much for your kind words. It does the soul of an artist good to know that their efforts are appreciated.

You're welcome, James Ewing. How long does it take to craft props like the ones in your picture?

Prop making is such a cool part of the filmmaking process. I met a prop master on a tv show set once and he showed me the insane number of bins he kept props in. Many were props that he salvaged and refitted or built from scratch, and I couldn't believe how often he had to create things for the show

That's not an easy question to answer, Maurice Vaughan. It can depend on many things. Mostly it depends on how much information I have from the client before I start work.
Some of the pieces pictured took months to design and build. Others only weeks.
If the client comes to me with a fully formed idea and concept sketches, the piece can be relatively easy to build. If I have to design and build the whole thing, it can take quite a while. Especially if the piece has a mechanical element. Mechanisms can br tricky.
Cool, James Ewing. Your work reminds me of movies like "The NeverEnding Story," "The Lord of the Rings," and "Pan's Labyrinth."
