Hi Bob, my name is Eric Barnett. I am also interested in screenwriting. What advice would you recommend for young screenwriters to help them produce better screenplays?

Eric - my advice is to learn "the rules" first. Then, you can decide whether or not to break them. As an unknown screenwriter, you're going to have few chances to get your work read and considered. There are literally tens of thousands of screenplays competing for the attention of producers. Producers use any means necessary to filter out the mountain of unusable scripts, trying to find that diamond in the rough. If your screenplay isn't up to industry standards, they'll probably toss it before they get far enough into it to see the magic in your story. Unfortunately, I can't just say "go read this book". My bookshelf has a couple dozen screenwriting books on it. And, the most value for my money thus far was the ScreenwritingU.com ProSeries class. Hopefully I won't get in trouble - this is an endorsement, not an advertisement. So, learn the rules and keep writing. Most writers write several screenplays before they get noticed.
