Introduce Yourself : Writer all around by Alex Winck

Writer all around

Hi, everyone. I´m a writer and journalist from São Paulo, Brazil. After many years working on journalism, I started to write comics, mostly educational ones, but in recent years I´m focusing on becoming an author in every media. I´ve written adult horror, fantasy and sci-fi comics, some of which are about to be published in local anthology comics, short stories, one of which will be published in a magazine. I have full drafts of a screenplay, an animated TV pilot, a graphic novel and a children´s book, both of which already have sample illustrations for pitching. Since I have a deep love for American films and TV shows, it´s one of my dreams to see my work in the American market. I know it´s as big a pipe dream as they come, but my life´s been all about fulfilling pipe dreams. A big welcome to everyone who´s new, and hope to make good friends and connections that will be helpful to all of us, artistically and professionally. United we stand, or, as a Brazilian would say, "é nóis!"

Hello, Alex, do you plan to have any of your comics adapted to film?

Alex Winck

Hi, Neva. My graphic novel is a kind of Star Trek meets Harry Potter thing, I do have a screenplay version of it, and I´d very much like to see it become a movie. I´d also like to have my chirldren´s book turned into an animated film.

Alex Winck

Hi, Nisha. I don´t think writing for an online magazine is ultimately too different from writing for a printed one. If it´s journalism, it´s all the basics: look for a different angle, do your fact checking, write with style but be objective, and don´t miss deadlines. If it´s fiction, well, there are not really rules, but look to be fresh and different, wirte with your heart as much as your brains. The one great thing online magazines have that printed ones didn´t quite is going viral, a great article may be shared all over the web, and the greater network of friends and peers you have online, the greater your chances to turn something viral.

Alex, that sounds like a cool merge. Good luck with it.
