Hi. I’m Michael from Denver, CO. I’ve never been any good at introducing myself, so bear with me. I’m reminded of what I wrote on October 14th, 2017, right after signing up for David Mamet’s MasterClass:
"Hello, folks. I can trace my decision to enroll in this online course back to my childhood, when telling stories—either with friends or by myself using toys—led to frenzies of creative energy that I could barely control. Since growing up, I have spent a lot of time and money striving to rediscover that same fun I had as a kid. Now I am a 23-year-old film student with a lot of ideas and a lot of excuses not to believe in them (or myself). Anyway, I hope that by taking this class I can get out of my own way and create something. "
Nine months later, I feel similarly but not the same. Since then, I have dropped out of film school in spite of it being considered one of the best in the country. However, I am still 23. I am still trying to rediscover the fun I had as a playful, imaginative kid. I am still as interested in film-making as ever—more than ever, actually. The one thing about me that has changed is my confidence. I believe in myself now.
With one project already written and storyboarded, I am ready to begin shooting my first short film. Here's to the spirit of collaboration and our shared love of movies. Cheers!
