Does anyone in Miami know who can fix / repair a corrupted LaCie external hard drive? I have a ton of video on it and it has stopped talking to my iMac.
That's not a whole lot to go on. Does the drive making any kind of ticking, thunking, or scraping noises? If it does, the read head on the hard drive could be busted. That would require a disk recovery company to recover the disks. However. if it doesn't tick, thunk, or scrape, and it simply won't connect when plugged in, you can purchase a hard drive shell (with a built in controller) and swap the actual hard drive out into the new shell. something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0VN-0003-000W5&cm_re=EXT...
The problem began when I transferred video files that were recorded in XAVCHD compression format into it. The drive makes no noise like you mentioned. I turn it on, hear it spinning, the blue light comes on, then normally I see the drive icon appear on the desktop. After transferring these specific files into it, the icon would not appear. I opened the disk utility software and the iMac would see the drive and diagnose it as corrupted, cutting off communication.
The iMac disk utility software tried to repair but couldn't. After the first disconnect, it no longer connects even after turning it on from a fresh boot up. Thanks for your comments, John. I'm trying to find a professional in Miami to help with this.

Can you attempt to repair the drive or does it abruptly disconnect?
If you have a major corruption, you might need restoration software to try and recover what you can. The rest might be beyond repair. Give this a try.... http://www.easeus.com/mac/mac-data-recovery-resource/partition-recovery/...
