Music from signed band where to inquire for use?

Hi All, I went searching around to find who is in charge of licensing ME to use THEIR song in my movie. In my case an Allman bro's song. I tried their official website, as I tried to syntax search manager, license, release, etc with no luck... Wondered if anyone here has kicked that can down the road before?

So first thing you need to do is get yourself a Music Supervisor, they are the ones with the connections and can get to the right people at the publishers' houses to get permission. If you want to try to do it yourself, look at either Volcano or Cake record labels, they bought many of the artists on Capricorn Records a decade ago or so... Happy hunting!

After doing some searching if you come across this and are wondering the same thing. I found this page by an attorney (rare to get anything so definitive printed by an attorney) http://www.murthalawfirm.com/music-film-license-kind-sync-license-cost/ A sync license would be required to use obtained via an attorney to contact their attorney to negotiate for One's use (if they will even allow it at all) To have use as done by the artist another license will be required called a Master license which of course an attorney needs to be used to contact their attorney to then negotiate it. Here are a few links to delve further into getting licenses be in the US or EU Hope they help those looking for resources and answers... http://www.riaa.com/index.php http://www.riaa.com/aboutus.php?content_selector=Licensing http://www.sesac.com/Home.aspx http://www.ascap.com/

Hi Simon- I am a songwriter as well and might be able to guide you or actually might have some music that would fit your opportunity. Contact https://www.harryfox.com for publishers of the songs that you are looking for and or find out which PRO they are with ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC and they will also have that information. Google is no help when it comes to this as I have tried in the past as well to perform cover songs. You can hear our stuff at SweetLittleBloodhound.com

Devlin that was slick site thanks. $250. for midnight Rider for festival for 1 year... Too bad the band that covered is not as good as Gregg or Hank Jr... Good lead man appreciate it.

Great Simon glad it worked out. Keep me posted if you need songs in the future or know of anyone, who does as I also know a lot of other musicians and songwriters and might be able to help steer you in the right direction. Sometimes an indie artist can nail it too. ;-) best- Devlin

Devlin, I am trying to figure out that website HFA. It is for indy fest at that price for a movie. Does that mean I can have that song re-recorded by a band in the fashion or front person I want and still have the license as it was as though I used the other bands version of it? OR do they have mechanical license and re-record and still use it for indy for that cost or cheaper since the band on their site does not need to be paid for not using them as I would use another band to do it in a fashion desired? IF you know or have been down that road before. I would have to yank it for distribution and remix the movie as the cost for commercial use is for the rich, not the indy artist. Like a © is cheap to get but you need to be rich to defend it.

Simon (c) Simon I would definitely call HFA directly and explain what you need. Sounds a bit out of my scope of practice. ;-)

Or if you can get the name of the publisher from HFA then contact them directly. Also someone suggested a Music Supervisor- this is also what they do. They know right where to go for licensing and they can steer you in the right direction. There are quite a few on S32
