From a random discussion with a peer, he wrote this. Please tell me this is not true!???? QUOTE: I’m a working actor ( 9 eps of a bafta winning bbc drama etc) with a terrible agent (my works comes from the goodness of a casting director). Things to look at before you decide to become an actor. 1 Attractive/pretty: lead/hero/successful working actor 2 average: police officer/one liners/ plot tools 3: fat: victim/funny person 4: ugly: bad guy:girl 5: ethnicity:you will play roles as your ethnicity as opposed to a person. All casting/producers follow this protocol. There are a few exceptions….there (are) to be exceptions.
Seems quite accurate to me. Unfair but in general true. There are exceptions.
Fck! What if you are 1 and 5? (Like me of course:-) Just wondering?
It's not fair is it? An actor who understands the needs of producers (and thus casting directors) is one step ahead of those who do not. An actor who is #3 shouldn't start their career trying to be the leading role/hero. Learn the ropes, pay the dues doing parts taylor made for them. Become a known name and leverage that to break out of the "type". We've seen it happen with #5 haven't we? Not often enough but it does happen.
Good advice. Glad that isn't protocol for screenwriters! Or is it? Hmmm Lol
Just saw this. Chiwetel (in my opinion) is 2 and 5...so he is now of the exceptions. A-Listers are exceptions if they make it (well they can be) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2989567/Nicole-Kidman-share...
I think Europe might be a bit more boxed in as well. There are not many movies produced for an international audience there (I think).
If it's international, then European productions, I would imagine, still mostly are controlled by H-wood :-). Getting local talent though another matter.
