*** Please could this stay in the Screenwriting Lounge as this is the target audience. The 3D Animators will just go "meh, we know" if it lives there. Thanks *** Hi, I'm going to relieve the frustration of having that script sitting there, never made into anything visual by showing you how to 3d animate and/or story-board it yourself! I believe this will make you stand out in a crowded market place. Did you know it was the 3D images in a book, made specifically for producers, that attracted enough attention to get Oblivion (staring Tom Cruise - 2013) made? See Blu-Ray extras for proof. Don't rely on others. This DIY series will get you going and assumes you know nothing about 3D. I supply links to the programs / resources that I use as we go. I'll just keep adding to this thread. Even if you decide not to go this route, it may help you to understand the processes behind moving a screenplay into a visual form. First up. I'm a big fan of storyboarding for screenwriters (2D or 3D). It helps on a lot of fronts. While I don't think the industry is ready to read scripts from writers with story board frames included in the pages, there's certainly a value in pitch material or a webpage and of course in helping clarify what you want your words to become. Mostly, writers struggle with the order of which to convey their action and to get on the page in words (clearly) what they visualize in their mind so that others can visualize it. Amazon studios offers a free story boarding tool for writers, it's limited but it can be useful. There are many other free storyboard tools out there and soon, there will be a script writing software called COMIXWRITER where writers can include small story boards with their scenes.
Thanks John and Jim. Whilst I accept that this isn't for everyone (time restraints). The freedom that comes from circumnavigating any kind of "permission" to see your script made visually is quite compelling. Plus you are learning a new skill that can be used for any other scripts that you write. Also I'm hoping to prove that this gives you an edge in getting noticed, in order to turn a script into a movie. :)

@Laurie Thanks for the share on COMIXWRITER. I bought Final Draft because of it's link into comic production, but it's still a lot of work to make the comic book (assuming visuals are already made). At some point late next year I'll be using the best frames from my animation to make a comic book. I'll be interested to see how COMIXWRITER progresses.

It's been a long time coming, Steve but I believe it will be ready in November. I'll let you know.

You are sharing and promoting your own tutorial series, Steve, therefore Your Stage is the appropriate place to do so. Please share away!

3D Animation for Screenwriters Part 5 ( Case Study. The Breakfast Club. Your first Storyboard) It starts as the breakfast club and ends up as some kind of Matrix Style Post Apocalyptic interview! lol. Anyway hope it encourages screenwriters to get involved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nIVkmVOI68

3D Animation for Screenwriters Part 6 (Making props flexible to work with your script). I show a real life editing session (mistakes and all) to give you a flavor of how quick it can be to "cut out" props from a model to make them more usable in you storyboard or animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5VPtAywGZg
