Adding Sound Effects in Your Script

Hello Everybody! Hope you all are well and still plugging away. I have a quick question. I'm not sure how to write a sound effect in my script. I need radio interference with bits of a broadcast fading in and out. Do I use SFX within the action lines or frame it as a VO with the sounds in parentheses?

JD Wallace

IMHO. :-) You can do either. If the sound is interfering with the conversation then I would put it on the dialogue line. Or you can let the director/editor handle it and just block it in as an action line. "[intersperse radio interference]" Hope this helps. Good vibes to you and your writing!

Thank you!

Just keep it simple. The source ought to be in the scene. GARBLED VOICE/STATIC from the radio. Capitalizing the actual sound alerts the Director & Audio/Editing guys know to do their jobs.
