Screenwriting : Any value to substack or medium or any of the other long form writing focused social media? by Zackary Goncz

Any value to substack or medium or any of the other long form writing focused social media?

I was curious, has anyone found any value to writing things for sites like substack or medium? Or any blogging type long form website, from a screenwriting perspective? I've seen people who are screenwriters, either with an IMDB or self-described, on those sites and I'm curious if anyone has found blogging to be beneficial to their screenwriting professionally. I'm wondering if, for those people, its a hobby or a side hustle or just another writing outlet, or if there is some way to utilize blogging to advance your screenwriting career, and how? Like, how would that lead to a job? Maybe networking or are producers DMing people, maybe it can just serve as a portfolio in some ways? Or, like I said, maybe its just people who like writing looking for any outlet and it doesn't directly impact the efforts to have a screenwriting career.

I have tried Substack as a writing outlet, but I haven't been serious

As far as I have learned, they make you more reachable from Google, and your name more known to an audience beyond your field

So, it depends on your goal. I think Substack is more for lifestyle/ routine / tips , while Medium is professional, non-fictional, and hands-on practical
