As some of you know I am doing a VLOG about writing. A bit of fun. I want to do a series about fleshing an idea out into a story. I want to show how any idea has a chance. This is where you come in.
If you want to drop some ideas in the comments. Each one will go into a hat and I will drag them out and work on them in the Vlog. Like I said a bit of fun.
A) You don’t have to contribute. (So no need to say why you don’t want to contribute in the comments.)
B) Yes I can come up with my own ideas. This is to show any idea can be developed.
C) No you don’t get paid, copyright or anything other than the love of an adoring planet.
I will let people know when I put it up by commenting on this thread bringing it back to the top.

Looking at archers right now shooting at the Olympics.
Story idea:
An archer wins Gold at the Olympics. Becomes 100% blind. He begins training on sound. The "10" makes a constant sound he focuses on. Now he has to get his (1) country and the Olympic Committee (IOC) so far that they allow him to shoot with the non-disabled; while the sound device only is turned on when he shoots.
Will he win Gold again?

When I was a kid I was a hood champion of telling made up movies to my guys...of course I lied I somehow had this great superpower to construct a movie story in just a couple of minutes, I was making them up as I went...some worked out, some not...
I salute your optimistic views Craig and I say every idea can be storied out, but not every story can become a movie...
Thanks these are great
Barry John Terblanche too easy. Fever Dream of a child. But you have started a story with existing characters. Therefore it isn’t really an idea for a story. What would we do.
First why would Nemo choose a Russia, and we need to establish a communication channel.
Darth has decided that water being the most rare resource in the Universe makes our planet a valuable asset. He can’t death star it for that reason. So he find the water’s apex predator - Jaws. He reaches out. Jaws wants Darth to melt the ice caps giving him and his “crew” access to people as they drown.
The Russia’s are aware of this as someone from the death star with a caviar addiction spills the beans (I mean fish eggs). So the Russia need a spy, someone that can go unnoticed in the sea world (a clown fish). Nemo’s only condition. He wants Jaws dead.
Kiril, exactly. I already have an episode on “is this a movie”. Most stories aren’t movie. Movies are special beasts.

You can use this idea, Craig D Griffiths: A starving bug tries to get into a family's picnic basket without being spotted and squashed.

Maurice Oceans 11 meets Ants. Interesting.
Craig D Griffiths, cool idea. I didn't think of that. It can be a group of starving bugs.

Harry, This is a good idea. I can see a good discussion coming from that.
Tony, a universe. Great leaping off point.
What does that mean?
Tony you have created a universe to tell stories in. For example there is a guy that adds a few words to every script, nothing big, but wants co-writing credit. How does the group react? Another writer’s work never makes the cut. Then they find out he is dying. They want to make his dream come true without it felling like pity. They have all the work completed, but the sales agent has a controversial offer, so want it some don’t.
All these conflicts can be explored in the universe you created. This is the type of idea that could be used for a TV series.

Hitler comes into possession of a time travel device and travels through time to stop the many attempts at taking his life from being successful. Somehow this ultimately leads to him deciding to kill himself.

Terrence you have pretty much the entire story right there. Because of him having to relive his own decisions, he begins to see himself the way we see him. I would write it as a cure to his own narcissistic tendencies. He would also find a way into the future without him. He sees how Germany flourished without him. Each time he saves himself it should harm the future of the country. Forcing him to decide country over self.

After an insecure angel named Satan falls in love with his red hot mother, his father – God – declares him eternal war. – Hell Rising
Story idea - Time and tide wait for no man...But they might for a teenage boy.
When his girlfriend Rhia is killed, all Tarquin Jenkins wants to do is understand the Nerydire Book of Dreams and find a time-bending amulet so he can save her. Unfortunately, nobody tells him about the bloodsucking Leche, the leprechauns, the other leprechauns, the killer androids, the extremely rude waitress, Nostradamus, Leonardo da Vinci, the malfunctioning toaster, the Zargothian legal system, the Bloated Shagganat nightclub, the psychopathic Griddleback hordes, and a flame-haired, one-eyed space pirate called Georgia Blade. After he gets his head around all that, Tarquin’s attempts to save Rhia become a little complicated.

There you go Peter, that is a complete story. You have given him a collection of tasks to overcome. To help build out the story I would do a relationship matrix between all the elements so they don’t feel like levels of a video game.
I think the first line is the key. As he gets dragged deeper into this world, which can only happen while he sleeps. He becomes more strange to people in his awake (real world). As these two worlds bleed together for him he begin to understand the book.
The result is that he can never bring her back. But he can stay with her if he remain in a catatonic state of living dreams.
The final scene is his girlfriend trying to convince him to let her go. That this (dream ) world isn’t meant for the living.
Love it!
