Looking for Advice: Getting My Scripts Out There

Hey everyone,

I have several scripts in different stages of development, and two of them are almost finished. I’m at the point where I want to start getting them out into the world, but I’d love some insight on the best steps to take next.

For those who have successfully pitched or sold scripts:

What strategies worked best for you?

Any recommendations for competitions, pitch sessions, or networking approaches?

How did you connect with producers, managers, or agents?

I’m open to any advice or resources that could help! I'd love to hear your experiences.

I wrote emails to 2 or 3 production companies but they most likely won't see my mails.

Thanks,

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Oded Nave. Congratulations on the progress with your scripts!

I've mainly had success with pitching by sending email query letters. I've also used Stage 32's Pitch Sessions (written pitches), and they helped me make my pitches better.

I've connected with creatives and industry professionals by networking on Stage 32, mainly by interacting with other members in the Lounges. Check out these blogs on networking: www.stage32.com/blog/tags/networking-41

I recommend Stage 32's contests (www.stage32.com/scriptservices/contests). If you win a contest or place as a Finalist, Stage 32 will send your work to agents and literary managers who are seeking new talent and other industry pros. If you don't see contests that fit your projects, keep an eye on the Contest Page. Stage 32 will be adding more contests.

For the Pitch Sessions, I suggest looking at the Pitch Sessions pages to see what type of scripts the executives, managers, etc. want to hear pitches for (www.stage32.com/scriptservices/pitch-sessions).

I suggest posting your scripts on your profile when they're ready. Producers search profiles on here for projects. I sold four short scripts to a producer in 2020. I networked with him, then he looked through the scripts I had listed on my profile and picked four he wanted to buy. Click the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and select “Edit profile” in the drop-down menu. Scroll down to “Loglines” and click “Add/edit loglines” to the right of “Loglines.” You can also post your script on your profile this way: www.stage32.com/loglines (near the top where it says “Add a Logline”)

And here's a free webinar on pitching I suggest watching: www.stage32.com/education/products/pitching-tips-from-the-pros-your-blue...

Getting yourself out there is a good step. Be it networking here or in person at festivals, talks and networking events. You will hear about other people’s experiences, get advice from people doing what you do and maybe connect with decision makers.

Networking at Festivals and pitch session thru Stage32 has gotten me some traction
