Hey, anyone using Final Draft please help. I optioned a script (finally), but the director wants the scenes numbered. Which I did. Final Draft numbers the scenes 1, 2, 3, etc. But he wants them to say SCENE 1, SCENE 2, etc-- said too confusing without the word scene. Also, FD puts scene # on both sides of page, but he only wants on left. Does anyone know how to do this? Please. Contact me here or email, jeffdrosenberg@gmail.com.
Well, okay. A) He's an idiot. B) I can get you only on left, and then through manual labor, what he wants: 1) Go to "Scene numbers" under production. Under "options" remove the check-mark in the "show numbers on right" box. Easy-peezy. 2) When your cursor is in the scene you want, go to "Production" and click on "Edit scene number." Edit every dern scene number so that it reads "Scene 1, Scene 2" etc. Far as I can tell, it needs to be done manually with every scene. Best to you, and congrats.
Thanks, I was afraid of that. Appreciate the help, let me know if I can ever return the favor
We cool, brother. Thanks for the "add," as well. You can hear me tonight being interviewed by Shriekfest's Denise Gossett, if you have any interest. Details on my Wall. My very best.
Good luck tonight
He is an idiot (the director)
I use Movie Magic, and there's a check box for scene numbering on Right or Left or both, check to see if FD has that. But the word "scene" not only isn't going to happen, it makes no sense. Um, who is this director and what have they directed?
William, I agree. It it actually the assistant director, and he's an idiot. I have a chainsaw in script. He had me change it to gas powered, I said I don't care if it is powered by fairy dust. He an ass, and trying to prove he knows more. WTF? Guess I'll be typing word scene 40 or 45 times. Thanks everyone, can someone just shoot Cole and put him out of my misery?
That said (and I'm as big a "gossip-is-entertainment" whore as anyone), be careful about dirty laundry in public forums, Jeff. You never know how six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon anyone is to anyone, and naming "X" with your name also on here is a mistake. -- IMO. - Assholes and opinions, and all that. I just try to err on the side of being closer to the vest, even while I screw up on another dozen things, lol. Just lookin' out for you. -- I, on the other hand, have no skin in the game. Guy sounds like a jerk. ;)
And that said, an obvious observation, fer entertainment's sake: It is infinitely easier to criticize, and even viably edit, than it is to create. A painter has to know how to handle a brush, but everyone can "type," right? The world is unfortunately full-to-brimming with folk who have no creative spark, and yet can gain some faint flame by altering your work, in ways they "feel" will add, or at least they feel will show they have had input. -- We hope to get to the point where we can surround ourselves with those who want your spark to glow brighter, in better service to the product.

True, better not to use names. And I am sure he has his good quality, but he said without word scene it could get confusing. Seriously? If the slug-line (which is in all caps, has a number in front of it, and is set apart from the scene before (and one to follow) by two spaces) doesn't let you know a new scene has begun, then perhaps the script isn't the problem. I'm just saying

and, intentional or not, "I am sure he has his good quality" is classic comedy.

Thanks. Next script I attempt is going to a comedy, scares the Hell out of me. Always afraid I won't be funny-- easy to scare people or make them cry.
Not fo' me. I'll stick to the occasional hysterical line. Too much dern work.
Last horror I did had a lot of funny lines, so I thought I would try my hand at it. Comedy has always scared me. Easy to make people laugh in conversation, hard to be intentionally funny. We'll see, may just kill the characters and make a thriller

Made me smile, right there.
Then instead of comedy it will a smile-edy. Hell, most comedies aren't too funny anyway
