Opening sequences?

I'm about to start writing a contained thriller which will be on shoot next year. Starting with an occasion/ or a quick hook is always great to grip the audience. Now, should I go with an important info missed by a character which would later bother him and would bring him to a frenzy world ready to be killed and let the audience alone know about the danger like Hitchcock used to do or should I go the other way, character knowing the info and still gets trapped in an alien world, ready to face the music, cursing himself.

Richard Allis

It all depends on how it’s written of course, but if the audience knows everything that needs to be discovered and are just waiting until the hero discovers it, they might end up bored while waiting. The other way could be tricky too, in that the character might look dumb for getting trapped in an alien world. If you can avoid those traps, either way could work. Then you might ask yourself which do you think you would write well. If both, I would go with your personal preference.
