Woke up from a nap and was floored that my pilot for "BOYFRIENDZ" made it into the Quarterfinals. Lil backstory...

This was my 1st attempt at screenwriting when I was 22 & I started it because I missed "Girlfriends" so much and I always wanted my own group of gay male friends who shared a "sister/brotherhood". I wrote 12 eps and would read them to my sister, after the season finale she said, "Ummmmm, so where's the rest? I need more." By age 25 I had written 5 seasons, 66 eps in total. Three years ago, I turned the 1st season of the show into a novel and the following year I shot a pilot season as a webseries on Youtube. These guys are my babies and this is the 1st comp I've ever entered them in so it really means a lot to even place.

Congratulations to all of the Quarterfinalists!

How exciting! Congrats fellow quarter finalists! I just love to tell stories, and this particular show is near and dear to my heart. To call my Pilot for Good Christian Boy a passion project would be an understatement!

Loosely based on my life, the show follows Ezra, an evangelical teen during the early 00s. It of course covers all the typical coming-of-age stuff but through the eyes of a charismatic Christian who’s slowly questioning everything from faith to sexuality. And it’s funny—and cringy.

I'm going for a Wonder Years meets Freaks and Geeks with a pinch of Righteous Gemstones from a good measure.

Whatever happens with this contest, it was a thrill to make it this far. Best of luck to everyone!

Oh and if you haven't seen it in another post, here is a photo of me as a Lust Demon for a church music drama thing called a human video.

Very excited to be a quarterfinalist and congratulations to the others! My script/series idea could be described as The Office meets Archer, injected with stem cells from Game of Thrones.

Jack Binder
