The Future of Filmmaking

Happy 4th! Just watched a video from a young screenwriter & his thoughts on the future of getting your work sold in the current market. Would love to hear what others think about what he has to say:

Thanks for sharing Eugene Cobb. I found the piece very interesting. The perspective is very U.S. centric, and there are exciting things happening in the world of film outside of the U.S. with many countries making interesting films without a Hollywood budget. Australia, for example, has a vibrant and active film industry and is producing quality movies and television drama which doesn't revolve around "reality" TV.

I still have faith in the industry although I don't agree with the current releases. I believe the creativity is still out there.

Maurice Vaughan

Tyler Mowery touched on a lot of things, Eugene Cobb. One thing he said was "I think the future is going to be you being forced to do more of the work." A lot of screenwriters are producing and/or directing their scripts, and I think there's gonna be more of that, but everyone doesn't want to be a producer and/or director. We'd rather just write and pitch. And what Tyler said reminds me of something else. Some screenwriters (me included) would rather just write loglines, synopses, and scripts, but a lot of times they need script posters, pitch decks, etc. to draw attention to their scripts.

I totally agree Maurice Vaughan that we as the creators and writers need to be in the drivers seat going forward from here and the best way to do that is to create your own films - Indies, shorts for Youtube and Instagram Reels, etc. And Thanks for sharing Eugene Cobb
