Writing Programs (Education or Internship)

Can anyone suggest a Writer's Program that is either more education oriented or more internship oriented? I am not sure what I am looking for so any information is appreciated to give me a good place to start looking or researching. Of course, if you have any direct experience that was either very helpful or NOT helpful, feel free to share if you could. Thanks!

I guess the question I have for you, Jacob, is where are you in your screenwriting journey? I know you said you're not sure what you're looking for, but can you tell me if you're trying to learn formatting? The art of storytelling and the story arc? Character development? Marketing and trying to sell your script?

As my profile says, I'm new to screenwriting, but not storytelling since I've been writing novels for over 20 years. HOWEVER, I am learning a ton of stuff about the tighter and more focused format with Screenplays, so I can share with you some great tools I've found in my own journey that have helped tremendously...

David Trottier's Screenwriting Bible- The first book I bought and it's been an invaluable reference for ALL the above topics I ask you about. From the program you use to getting your script represented, Trottier has a ton of info that will get you off on the right foot.

Final Draft - This may be a no-brainer for most, but since I don't know where you are in your journey, I'll throw it out there. As a novelist, the tool of choice is MS Word. I was reluctant to part with this program, but Uncle Phil and Jeff Langham stressed it will make my life so much easier...and they were right! I did my first screenplay in Word and it was a nightmare in comparison. Doable...but distracting during the writing process. INVEST, SAVE UP, WHATEVER you need to do...buy it! You can get a discount on it - $199 instead of the usual $249. Do a Google search for it and look for the "Writers Store" link where it says "SAVE". If you go straight to the Writers Store, you won't see the mark down.

Master Class - I took Aaron Sorkin's Master Class here: https://www.masterclass.com/classes/aaron-sorkin-teaches-screenwriting/ David Mamet has a class on there I plan on taking. Right now, I'm taking Steve Martin's class and so far it's not as productive and informative as Sorkin's class, but Martin is teaching about how to do standup. I'm taking it to learn a little more about the process of being funny. Fun times!
