Success Stories: AUG'14 Lightning strikes again!

Steve Sherman

Lightning strikes again!

Thank you, Joey! Again, my screenplay was requested, this time via written pitch. I enlisted Joey's services to help with this pitch. Invaluable. I'd type more but I have to go. Let's just say that during the pitch consulting I was taking notes furiously and then scrambling to get it all rewritten on time for the pitch. Very, very good experience.

Amanda Toney

Congrats Steve!

Jan Evans

Good for you! Joey's a great help, so enthusiastic and upbeat, as well as knowing his stuff.

Steve Sherman

Thanks! :)

Sylvia Marie Llewellyn

Wonderful news. Keep it up.

Mike Trentacosti

Congratulations Steve that is awesome news. Would you recommend doing written or skype for your first pitch with the Happy Writers sessions?

Steve Sherman

Hi, Mike, Short answer is both.

Steve Sherman

Boom! And, again! Joey just sent notice that another has requested my screenplay! Joey is THE MAN! Thank you! :)

Jan Evans

Excellent Steve! Congrats!

Rob Ricards

congrats; any chance that you might show us that pitch?

Steve Sherman

Good question. I don't know if it's a good idea to post or share pitches in this forum.

Michael Persaud

Congrats! Question when they request the script are you submitting directly or to Joey?

Steve Sherman

I post to Joey. In fact, it seems to me a Bad Idea to post either the pitch or the script pretty much anywhere. And, I would NOT encourage any submissions (pitch or script) except through Joey. Note that Joey is doing a favor in enabling us access to these movers and shakers in the industry. These are VERY BUSY people and need someone like Joey to help filter. Plus, it is NOT a good idea to post ideas and such in public. I found myself asking, "If I were Tarantino, would I post this?" If the answer is no, don't post.

Michael Persaud

Hi Steve, i see all the emails from Joey. When you were pitching was it directed at Joey or was it at an industry rep?

Steve Sherman

Hi, Michael, I developed the pitches (choosing from the available posted pitching opportunities -- see Joey's emails!) and got valuable feedback from Joey. This is the $50 pitching assistance that you can opt for (and you SHOULD opt for it, whether doing verbal or written pitch). When I did the live pitch, that was me doing the pitch over the phone. Written pitches are sent to Joey who delivers them. Then, when work was requested, Joey notified me by email and I sent the latest screenplay to Joey who passes it forward. This is quite a good process. You get feedback from Joey and, depending, feedback also from the person you pitch to (via Joey). These are people that apparently have come to know and trust Joey and there is good reason for that. Joey does the work to provide an interface to these people, a filter to ensure success on both sides. You get to learn while they get to hear your pitch without having their time wasted. If you do it right, even if you don't have your screenplay requested, you will learn. So, it's win-win regardless, if you look at it that way.

Lee A. Miller

Hey this is great. Glad to hear it.

Michael Persaud

Hi Joey, i have a question, now what happens next after Steve sends his script to you and you send it on? Does the company read it, option it, file it ....?

Michael Persaud

Sounds good. What are the stats so far?

Shari D. Frost

Congrats, Steve! I'm inspired by both your success and hearing how guided the process is.

Steve Sherman

Lightning just struck a third time! Joey is da MAN! Another request just came in! :)
