Oh what a night!!!
First of all, an enormous thank you to my Hollywood production partner James Ganiere for submitting to this festival when he knew I had given up on any chance of winning an award in my home country for our project.
Second, a profound thank you to Peter Koevari and the AFIN - International Film Festival for honouring us with recognition at your awards ceremony last night. Everybody there was so impressed with how professional and smooth running the evening was. Congratulations to everybody involved.
Third, it is with enormous gratitude that I thank my incredible Australian team for attending and sharing, this remarkable evening and bringing your own brand of magic and expertise to the project. Our Oscar Winning Sound Technician Nigel Christensen, our post production wizard Brian Rapsey, and our narrator, the ever glamorous and gorgeous Kirstine Lumb-Mckay. Also to Aldwyn Altuney- Media Queen who has been part of the odyssey of this journey for the past 25 years, Clint Smith my tiger of an attorney, Brett Sherwell, my wonderful graphic artist for the last 15 years, Susan Lake-Harris my beautiful website designer, and other wonderful
friends who attended including Zoe Smith, Veronica Sherwell, Tracey Korman, David Leneman, and Margaret Jurca.
OH YES… WE WON !!
BOTH CATEGORIES !!
Best original score thanks to the inspirational Mzansi Youth Choir founded by the visionary Jannie Zaaiman and Mauritz Lotz Productions and…
Best Documentary
I hope you enjoy hearing about yourselves in my acceptance speeches, which are both included here in videos. And Richard Loring please listen out for your name as well. David Rogers and Australian Firefighters Calendar, please give yourselves a pat on the back for the role you played in helping to make this happen as well. Korin Levine Korman, Richard Hall, John Thompson, John Mitchell Adams, Justin Hartwell, Priscilla Presley, Eduardo Goncalves, Sir Roger Gale, Larry Korman, Linda Richardson Korman, David Bartlett, Michael Stern, Anthony Leake, the late great Cliff Simon, Tippi Hedren, Will Travers, Dame Virginia McKenna, Dame Jane Goodall, Seretse Khama Ian Khama, and so many others around the world you have all been pivotal in bringing the truth about the seedy and nefarious underbelly of the trophy hunting industry out of the shadows and Into the Light.
And none of this would have happened if the heroic and fearless Meryl Harrison had not first brought this matter to my attention when she was chief inspector of the SPCA in Zimbabwe nearly 25 years ago.
I am just so grateful and humbled that after all these years and the recognition we have received around the world that finally we have brought this important documentary home to where it all began in Australia.
