OTT & Transmedia : From Game to Movie by James Hoey

From Game to Movie

Another question before the holiday weekend hits. What video game would you like to see adapted into a film, and why? Would it be because of the story, great character acting, fun premise? As a bonus answer, what in that adaptation would you like to see changed?

I'll jump in with Red Dead Redemption 2. I love westerns. The story of Arthur Morgan is a classic redemption story (well, so is John's) but the writing of the game was wonderful. The acting was solid and it was pretty much like watching an interactive movie. Most of the drama and humor would translate well into a script.

What would I like to see different? Obliterate the character of Mary. Beyond providing choice points in the game she has little to add to the story. One could rewrite her role in the adaptation process, but I would write her out altogether. Why chew up screen time on a null character when you can use that time for some extra action scenes?

What say you folks?

I've seen gameplay of "Red Dead Redemption 2," James Hoey. I think it'd be a fantastic movie. "Red Dead Redemption" could even be a movie franchise.

I'll like to see a lot of games adapted into films. "Bioshock," "Dino Crisis," "Time Crisis," "Syphon Filter," "Earthworm Jim," "Metal Gear Solid," etc. I think they'll look incredible on screen, they'd be fun as movies, and I think writers could come up with great stories for them. A "Bioshock" movie is in the works.

I was gonna try and get the rights to produce a "Bloody Roar" film way back (back when I was trying to produce movies). I wanted Neill Blomkamp or McG as the director. I also tried to get the rights to produce a "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" movie, but someone already bought the rights to turn the game into a movie.

I'd love to see an adaptation of Limbo. I think it could be artistic, deep, and moving if done right. The change I would make is for the boy to occasionally speak. In the game, he doesn't talk, none of the human characters do. For a game that's certainly interesting, but I think occasional dialogue is necessary for an adaptation.

As for the bonus answer, James Hoey, I'm not sure what I'd change in the adaptations. It's been so long since I've played those games. I know who I'd cast as the lead character in a "Dino Crisis" movie. Karen Gillan.

Sam Sokolow

Pong The Movie.

James Hoey

I would line up for that one Sam Sokolow

Terrence Sellers

The second screenplay I ever wrote was an adaptation of a game called 'The Mark of Kri'. I actually did try to get the movie rights, but SONY wouldn't even respond to my enquiries. I have shelved the script, but I still think that game would make a great fantasy action movie in the style of Apocalypto or Black Panther 2.

It`s interesting! Transforming games into movies can be a hit or miss, depending on how well the essence of the game is captured. The key is staying true to the original storyline while making it compelling for a different medium. Just like in the gaming world, where immersive experiences are crucial, movies need to engage the audience emotionally. Speaking of immersive experiences, if you're into gaming, you might want to check out this platform https://slotticacasino.cl/app/ which offers a wide range of casino games that could inspire future movie adaptations. Keeping audiences hooked, whether in a game or a movie, is all about storytelling and delivering the right experience.

Turning games into movies is such a fascinating process, especially when done right. The trick is balancing the game’s story and atmosphere while making it engaging for viewers who might not be gamers. It's like translating one language into another—you have to keep the core but adapt it for a new audience https://slotsjudge.com/casino-news/exclusive-interview-with-esa-gaming-o... I actually think this crossover of gaming and film also connects to strategic thinking in other areas. For example, I’ve picked up a lot of insights from Pauls Spakovskis on SlotsJudge, where he dives into strategy and understanding the odds, which has helped me improve my gaming approach and mindset overall.
