Transmedia 101

Here’s a short article about storytelling and Transmedia. It states,

“Despite these challenges, the intersection of film and gaming in transmedia storytelling has opened up exciting new possibilities for both industries. It has allowed for a more immersive and interactive experience for audiences, as well as a deeper exploration of complex narratives.”

I think it points the way, to what stories would make good Transmedia projects; namely the “…deeper exploration of complex narratives.”

I wouldn’t think of this for all of my projects, but for those that the world-building has morphed into universe building. My current project, an animated social fantasy series is one that fits the ‘complex narrative’ requirement and is something I’ll be exploring as the story develops.

What about you? What projects are you working on that have a complex narrative and could expand into a Transmedia project?

I love this! Thank you for sharing, Geoff Hall!

Sam Sokolow

Very cool. Thanks for sharing, Geoff Hall! I have one script that I'm attached to produce that my brother, Alec Sokolow (TOY STORY) wrote that has a gamer lead character and a really cool multi-dimensional story that could really explore all of these possibilities. Dare to dream!

Great share, Geoff Hall. To me, transmedia is intersecting many different media and platforms to the story, not just gaming. Each social media platform has a different media and audience reach. Eons, before we saw half the platforms we have today, there was a beer commercial that you could say used early transmedia to sell its product, using audience engagement. It was genius.

Here is the contest announcement for the Kokanee Ranger. Hunt for the Kokanee Ranger commercials to get a chuckle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrehBj8gowk

Here is how the audience decided: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnEiIgG397o

At the time, it was promoted in the newspapers, television ads, in the liquor stores. Not the same as the Dark Knight viral campaign trailer, but it was fun.

I just found this case study, now that I went down this rabbit hole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgJ7oDN9YEo

Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg Oh, my firewall didn’t, nor did my VPN Malware flag it. I’m not sure what’s happening there, Shadow.

Geoff Hall

Sam Sokolow that’s fascinating, Sam. And a great family story/family connection too. I’m dreaming good things for my project!

Debbie Elicksen the Kokanee Ranger Live or Die is very funny. Thanks for sharing!

What software (if any) is used to VR scripts? How do scripts load into the main

Geoff Hall

Kimberley Kaiserman Hi Kimberley, we try and encourage all members of the community to have a profile photo. It helps personalise any connections. Thanks.

As for your question, could you please clarify the last part. “How do scripts load into the main…?” The main what?

All scripts (whatever the format) will be translated/transformed into code. My scripts are written on Final Draft 12.

Kimberley Kaiserman

Thanks for the reply, Geoff! "How do scripts load into the main programming platform or coding program." I've been in a plane, WiFi in and out. Im new to this platform and to writing for transmedia -- any help, corrections, alignment, education or opportunities to learn are much appreciated.
