Inner City Kayaking Camp Teaches Teens to Persevere Through Adversity

After 9/11, Jesse Stone wanted to do something for the inner city youth. They had not been directly impacted by a traumatic global event, but were already enduring many untold struggles closer to home. That's when she decided to create the Inner City Kayaking Camp for New York City youth. She chose kayaking as her medium for teaching a variety of life skills that are hard to come by for anyone, but particularly for these young people who have a range of difficult situations. Through embracing the challenges they meet on the water they learn about self-sufficiency, teamwork, and most importantly, how to pick themselves up when times get hard.
