Screenwriting : Tv Pilot by Donell Jones

Tv Pilot

I want to start my pilot, but what's the best software to do so? I was told too use Microsoft.. Any suggestions?

Anthony Cawood

If money is a big factor then there's free software like CeltX that gives you TV formats too. But never Microsoft for screenwriting.

Rick James

I used Final Draft for years, in my opinion, it is among the best writing software I've used so far. Celtx is merely OK, but has formatting problems. However before I bought FD, I wrote my early scripts using Microsoft word. It wasn't easy, you had to be careful of your formatting, but it got the job done. And that was after I gave up my typewriter. You really want to learn script formatting, do it on one of those. By the time you get to the end of your screenplay, you'll be a pro.

Danny Manus

use ANYTHING but Microsoft Word.

I have Celtx on my MacBook, I don't think it gives me a tv show option.. So do I just use the film option?

Anthony Cawood

Donell, I think you'd use the Film otptio, they also have Sketch for episodic TV... here's the answer from CeltX when someone asked on their boards = https://support.celtx.com/hc/communities/public/questions/200868550-Do-y...

Gameela Wright

Celtx, Scripped, or Final Draft.

Kamala Lane

I've written all my screenplays, TV specs and a pilot using Celtx.

Tarus Rhinehart

I use Celtx and its been great for me plus its free if all you want to do is write a script. Use the screenplay option. TV scripts pretty much the same basic formatting rules as a film script (or at least as I was told), so it's shouldn't make a difference.
