The "Three-Act" formula in scriptwriting as advocated by Syd Field in his book "Screenplay" is so far the best book on screenplay I've ever read. In our exchange of ideas, I suggest that we discuss the Second Act more often and more seriously because it is the Second Act which often determines if the screenplay is worth reading, or ultimately, producing it!
Hey, Nardz! Syd is the man! You might also like THE STORY SOLUTION by Eric Edson. It contains a powerful plotting paradigm that breaks acts into sequences. More good stuff!
Hey, Owen, let me know how you like The Art of Dramatic Writing. I've been thinking about checking it out.
I feel like this kind of book, like the McKey are like learning how to read music. It won't give you genius. Respecting the three acts by the book will teach you to be a good "Salieri" but never a "Mozart".
