For those of you who have entered before or know about this contest, how does it work? Is there winners in each genre, or are the genres grouped together? Some contests group them, some have them separate. Just wondering if my co-writer and I enter our comedies, if they'll be up against action and drama scripts, or just comedies.
All scripts go into the same pool. Unlike other contests Nicholls does not divide into categories. Enter earlier in the submission period for a better chance at getting read by more than one reader. They have high standards so send your best. No feedback. Good luck.
Very helpful feedback, Pat. Thanks!

Here's info on the Nicholl: http://www.oscars.org/nicholl/about It's the gold standard of screenwriting competitions. Nearly all finalists in the past have written at least several screenplays prior to the script that got them the fellowship.

Nicholl is a great festival and one of the most respected in Hollywood. I placed in the top 1% back in the day many years ago with my spec and the next year I couldn't enter it again as it was optioned and later produced into a feature film with international distribution. I wrote a heartfelt WWII movie that starred four ten year old kids and at the time Hollywood was not making this type of movie. But it eventually found the right producer who championed it and his company made it as their first film.

It is THE contest of contests to enter, Becca. I was a semi-finalist years ago. If you make it even that far, they send out your name to a list of agents and production companies that ask for them. I'm going to try this year. Good luck!
That sounds cool, Michael. My co-writer and I are considering entering this year for the first time as well.
That's what I keep hearing, Phillip. And why I would like to enter. Congrats on the semi-finalist you had obtained! Did anything become of that script?
I was contacted by a couple of big agents but they didn't run with it. Looking back, it wasn't nearly ready. Some of the spec scripts from last year's fellows are floating around. I recommend reading them.
Where can those scripts be found, Phillip?
Thanks for the reminder, Jim. My co-writer and I are finishing up our scripts yet. The deadline we set is the beginning of April.
Send me your email in a DM. I think Nichol was offering them up at some point but not sure.
