DIRT - Short Sci-Fi

Hi everyone, I was cast in a movie entitled DIRT as the lead character “DIRT”. A very interesting character! The short movie is now available on YouTube. We’d really appreciate all of you to watch it and give us your input. There’s talk about the development of a feature or series based on this character. Dirt is a woman who lives in a post-apocalyptic landscape. A sentient radio who she refers to as "Sir" is her only friend. Serving Sir and doing his bidding has been the only life she has ever known. This changes however when one day two strangers arrive and challenge everything Dirt has been thought about the world around her. Please enjoy, share and give us your feedback. Thank you! First the good. Your performance was solid, good steady acting. I enjoyed it very much. Also, for the most part, the cinematography was beautiful. The landscape was awesome. Alice & Rachel were beautiful, though their performances were much less convincing than yours. OK, huge gaping plot holes. How does a radio never run down its batteries? This has been an ongoing question ever since Gilligan's Island. How does this woman, who has lived a lie all her life, so easily let it go, based on nothing but the word of two complete strangers? Why are these young women, who have had their lives threatened twice, so comfortable around this woman who still wields a loaded rifle, and could be completely crazy for all they know?

Joe Becker

I had no problem believing an alien powered the radio, which I figured was a plug-in type, not battery operated. if you're going to believe in aliens, why limit their power? some nice locations. the shot of you walking into the sunrise was awesome. to go from that nice warm shot to a cold blue shot was shocking and worked well. I at first assumed dirt was crazy and just heard voices. it was interesting to learn the radio was controlled by an alien. your discovery - I assumed that was canned peaches and now I want some. you made whatever was in that can look absolutely delicious. I could feel the hunger. and then, the fear, when Sir asked you to check the basement. emotion is key to any good script. it wasn't perfect, but it was well done. I enjoyed it.

Patrick Freeman

I guess it would be useless to point out that, if the Aliens are powering the radio then what good would it do to remove the batteries?

Sylvie Cohen

Thank you so much Joe and Patrick for taking the time to watch the movie and for your feedback. I truly appreciate it.

Who's to say that batteries were really powering the radio? It was significant for DIRT to do that action. After all what does she know .... More questions could be answered in the future. We'll just have to wait and see!

Debbie Croysdale

I enjoyed this short. Could feel the evil coming out of "the radio". I wanted to smash it up.

Sylvie Cohen

Ha! Ha! Thank you Debbie, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie! Yes, Sir is definitely a tyrant!

John Boston

I think you did a great job, very believable. I wouldn't worry about the plot's short comings......it was after all a "short". How much plot development do you expect? I can think of "A" list, full length films with plenty of holes in the plot.

John Boston

At first I thought you would smash the radio but by holding it instead it showed the struggle between the feelings of betrayal and the fact that "Sir" had "saved you and taken care of you" most of your life. It added a depth to it for me.

Debbie Croysdale

Yes, the protagonist was protective of "Sir" just to take out his batteries, it was a bit like telling an old friend/spouse to shut up, and it left the plot open for continuation. I like this quirky idea, it can open up all sorts of possibilities of rich character interaction, in a futuristic world. Think of slightly similar genre, eg series like The Prisoner, original 1960s where Patrick Magoohan ends up in a village, controlled by a voice he never sees. Was both re done and repeated in this last decade. Hope some unwitting traveller re boots "Sir" lol.

Hi all, I'm new to this and I'm just wanting to better my acting skills so I would like to get some feedback on some of my work. Here is a short I did for the 48 hour film project. http://youtu.be/1Z5er_lxnpI

Sorry didn't mean to post that here.
