Screenwriting : In Production by Rose Summers

In Production

I was doing a little random Googling last night and learned through it that one of the concepts I have in my to-write box is similar to not only one film already in production but two films, two concepts that very powerful members of Hollywood are working on and will likely compete against one another on high levels. So my question is, should I work my script in the hopes that it'll get picked up by somebody smaller like Netflix, or should I keep it in my box for a later date?

David Levy

Just keep going with it. You never know if anyone will want similiar material if the others do very well. Stick to your story. If you really feel you need to work on it, change subtle things to make it stand out even though it feels the same.

Mike Romoth

That's one of the first big problems most of us encounter. Many people have the same ideas as us. It's a hard pill to swallow the first time you run into this type of synchronicity, but it will always be there whether you like it or not. However, fore-warned is fore-armed. Now that you know there are other project just like yours, what can you do to flip the script and make the story your own again? What twists will make yours different and superior? Consider the competition a challenge, not an obstacle.

Anthony Cawood

If the two films are in production then I'd hold fire, see what they end up being like and then take a view on if you want to try with a tailored version of your script. In the meantime I'd concentrate on something else... just my opinion of course...

Kerry Douglas Dye

I'm with Anthony. Unless you have nothing else to work on. I'd bump this one to the rear of the queue.

Rose Summers

Thanks guys. I have so many in my queue that I'm good for the next 5 years at the rate I'm going, so I'll keep it in mind, consider how to tweak it, but won't give it priority.
