It's true - I'm over 50 and I am as current as I've ever been, writing novels, screenplays, and children's books. After almost 40 years as a visual artist, it seems the visual art market became soggy (to say the least), so I decided to do what I always dreamed of doing - write. My first novel was published in 2012 and as a period piece, I called it a fictionalized biography. I spent over a year with producers adapting it for film into a five page treatment. A grueling exercise, that did -however, result in something good. The story, one I had talked about for 30 years, was daunting to write as a script. I had so much personal attachment to it. In order to break that attachment I gave myself an exercise of writing a horror, action, adventure script. Writing [this] was an absolute blast. It renewed and refreshed my writing. I am also a father of a musician daughter - so wish me a happy Father's Day. Oh and happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there.
Happy Father's Day! Was your script produced? Sounds exciting. I'm over 50 too and struggling with my Dreaded Synopsis.
Thanks for the Father's Day wish. I have not had a script produced - yet. My novel has been labeled a "tome," and so the adaptation into a treatment is a huge step. It makes it palpable and manageable. Even though I wrote a first draft of the script - I am very dissatisfied with it. However, the horror movie - I think, is really ready as a finished script. Funny that it went this way - I never expected to write horror.
