Acting : Third job I have booked in a weird way..Is this normal? by Chris Fosselman

Third job I have booked in a weird way..Is this normal?

I am one of the leads in The UnMiracle co-starring Kevin Sorbo and Stephen Baldwin. I skyped my audition and callbacks from my bedroom in Idaho. They cast me and we didn't meet until they flew me to Chicago to shoot the movie. For Jared Hess's new comedy Don Verdean that played at Sundance and got purchased by Lions gate, Mr. Hess came into a CD's office saying he needed a teen and described what he was looking for. The CD had just taped me for a third callback for a different movie ( I didnt get it-ugh) and showed him the tape. Jared hired me without meeting me. I worked one day opposite Sam Rockwell in the scene. My latest is I just booked the lead of a feature that shoots for 6 weeks in Utah. They couldn't find the right person and then somehow they came across my new reel https://youtu.be/DQO_ozdKSRM They called me, sent me the script and offer, and I start shooting this Friday in Utah. I finally graduated from High School and I'm moving to LA after this feature. I hope that luck continues down there. Anyone else have castings like theses?

Chris Connell

That's incredible man. So awesome! Sam Rockwell is one of my favorites. Doesn't sound like you need much help but when you come to LA hit me up and we can have a coffee. Happy to help with transition in any way I can. Made that transition myself. (But didnt have the awesome credits you're coming to town with). To answer your question: No, its not normal. But its awesome. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks! I see that you are into self producing. I made a feature last summer and I got Terry Kiser Dead guy/Bernie) from Weekend at Bernies in my film. He's the older guy in my reel. Totally cool guy. I stayed at his house in Austin when my movie played there. I have a couple of offers for film school that I cant turn down. That was never in the plan. So I'm making that big decision too this week.

Chris Connell

Big decision indeed. Good luck with that buddy. Quality problems :)

Joshua Webster

Wow, that is amazing. Good luck with it all fella!!

Paul Cross

Good luck with everything, Connor. I self produce as well. I think it's the only way to have control over your film career. It's worth all the effort it takes. Look me up when you come to LA. We can have a coffee and we can talk about life in LA in the film business.

Madalyn McKay

Connor congratulations. You are off to a great start. Good on you.

Charmed! I guess this is the life for you! I've had some cool unexpected castings off a self-tape, a couple of roles that were originally for guys, then at the last minute they decided they wanted a woman, and I got the part. But these are kind of cosmic. You are on a roll, young man!!!

My first day in LA was just as awesome. About, two weeks before I moved to No. Hollywood I sent out about 75 blind emails to the top and mid tier agents and managers. I was aiming high and hoping for the best. 7 agency's and Managers contacted me and I set up appointments with them all. But the very first Manager I met with I just loved his style and he was real with me. So I signed with him and he's getting me great auditions. If that wasn't great enough I had an audition for a smaller (although I dont care if its the lead or one line just want to work) role. My parents were actually with me to drive in the craziness and move me in to my apartment. So I get back in the car and they asked how it went and i said actually pretty well. They had me read three times so I always take that as a good sign. While driving back they called me and asked if i could turn around and read for one of the leads. Of course I did. When I got back in the car from that they asked how it went and I told them not so great. Cold reading is my weakest by far. So, then I wondered for a few days if my bad reading blew any chance for any role. But, about a week later they called me for a callback and the following day they offered me the gig. So I shot ten days in Barstow and the Salton Sea. It's my first horror movie and it was a blast. Energy on sets are so amazing and fun! So again I feel so lucky getting an awesome manager and a gig on day one.
