Hi All, I am a screenwriter who came up with a great idea for a play. I wrote it but not too sure of it as of yet since I've only read a couple of books and articles on how to write one. Can anybody recommend anymore books, online classes(I prefer those), and online resources to help me perfect my craft? Thanks, Don

Pam, while I will never claim in the affirmative that 'Writers are depressed' I can certainly say that most writers are like professors - folks with a great deal of knowledge but most are NOT wealthy. To avoid insanity, the average writer in my humble opinion, should have a day job until they hit the jackpot.

I would also add that reading plays similar to the genre you're writing is very helpful, too. I love wit and comedy. Before I wrote my first play in '97, I read a series of Niel Simon plays first, and then a bunch of award-winning comedic plays. I wanted to know what made them tick. What made them Pulitzer Prize winners? So that, combined with writing workshops, works for me.

Above all else, Don, make sure that your play is CORRECTLY FORMATED! Otherwise, it will be rejected without even a glance. There are FREE templates online for formatting--be sure & use these...I'm not kidding, it's a jungle out there.
