Introduce Yourself : Costume Designer by Rachael Kras

Rachael Kras

Costume Designer

Hi ya'll, my name is Rachael Kras and I wanted to introduce myself. I am a costume designer based out of Denver. I have been involved in performing arts (professionally) since 2007 but have been in or involved in theater nearly all my life. I specialize in theater, musical theater, classical ballet and contemporary ballet. I have been the resident costume designer for Denver's premier contemporary ballet company, Wonderbound, for 5 years. Wonderbound.com was formerly Ballet Nouveau Colorado (BNC) I am a "one-woman" department meaning I design all the costumes and then cut, sew, fit, alter and launder them as well as serve as the backstage dresser for the entire company of 10-12 classically trained ballet dancers. Yes, it's a lot of work! ;) Prior to all of that, I worked at the Arvada Center for The Arts and Humanities in the wardrobe department where everything is built from scratch in-house. Sometimes I like to bust out of the contemporary ballet scene and do some enriching projects to keep sharp on my skills. I like to do epic stuff with epic people. Check out my personal site at http://www.RachaelKras.com and please follow me on whatever flavor of social media you like best. I'm very excited to meet new people in the community. If there's one thing I've learned in this business, you never know who you're gonna meet and where you might end up tomorrow.

Rachael - wow. I checked out your costume photos and they are stunning. Just beautiful. Do you have any more photos of your work? I'd love to see them on your profile. You are so talented! I can't believe you are a one-woman shop - cut, sew, fit, alter & launder - that's impressive. You can tell the passion you have for your art in your post. I'm so glad you're here in the community. If you ever find any cool costuming articles, post them in our On Set Crew lounge so we can see them: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/crew

Elisabeth Meier

Can't add much more to what Elisabeth and Julie stated about the work..Stunning. But I will add that your spirit and collaborative nature shines through. Loved your last paragraph. An open mind and a reception to all connections being worthy is a winning strategy. So great to have you in the community, Rachael!

Thank you so much Julie! I will definitely get involved with the "lounge" and I am just now getting into my "off season" so I'll be updating everything with some awesome photos of my work from the last 9 months.

Rachael Kras

Thank you Elisabeth Meier! Nice to meet you too. Thanks for the compliments.

Rachael Kras

I'm so humbled by your compliments RB. Thank you so much. I have a deep passion for my work and even after all my years of involvement I always endeavor to keep my enthusiasm high and to not get stale and complacent. Sometimes the work is very hard and the hours are long, and not to be corny, but a positive attitude will get you through easier than a negative one. You have to keep "fresh", keep reaching higher and at the very least- just keep going! LOL!

Richard "RB" Botto

You are very welcome, Rachael. And I couldn't agree with you more. A positive, progressive attitude will put you in a position to win every day.
