Hey everyone, my name is Junie and I am an indie documentary filmmaker based out of Toronto, Canada. My passion is telling compelling stories without narration (voice over). I am currently writing, producing and directing a documentary about the hard life and tough times of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia coal miners. It is a story that needs to be told and it is both my duty and obligation to tell it as I am a granddaughter of a coal miner who began his days in the pit at the young age of 12 and ended his days in the pit when he died of cancer. His cancer was caused by breathing in coal dust but of course the coal companies and the government said is wasn't so. My film is entitled 'In My Blood'. I am funding it with my own money. If you want to know more, please don't hesitate to ask questions or send me a message. Thanks for reading my post and have a great day! Junie
Hi Junie! I'm so glad you're writing & producing that film! My grandfather was a gold miner in Red Lake (way north Ontario). He had a hard life, too, but I think it was the drinking that killed him in the end, not the lung cancer. Then, there's the stories from Elliot Lake (uranium mines). I bet a LOT of Canadians can relate to this theme! How do you do a documentary without narration?
Hi Sarah, thanks for our interest! I am sure you can relate as your grandfather worked in a mine. I should have said I don't use voice over in my films as I believe the subjects should speak for themselves. :)
Hello Julie, Very glad to hear about your project. Sounds like a very interesting film, with a special family intimacy o the content. I am a documentarian in US and made a film on Generational Poverty. A lot of it as in West Virginia, and had a substantial segment on the mining community. http://films.com/ecTitleDetail.aspx?TitleID=13198&r=SR Don't purchase it. I will try to send you a link. My film has very minimal narration in the body of the film itself. There was narration tin the intro to the series, some set up narration and a few links. But your story as narrative may not need narration at all. . Best, TN
Hi T N Mohan, your film sounds amazing. Thank you for the link. I did view the preview and looks like a well thought out and executed documentary. Generational poverty runs through most of my film as well. Thank you so much for your imput. You can send me a link at junieboudreau@hotmail.com if you like. My facebook link page for my film is https://www.facebook.com/InMyBloodTheDocumentary My film should be complete by the end of 2016. Good luck with your films and thanks again for responding. Junie
