I have a couple questions since I just joined less than a week ago. Since I write books do they have to be changed into screenplay format to be sold or optioned? Can they simple be left as is? After all people who give me reviews I hear commonly three things 1-I write like watching a movie 2-I have great storylines 3- I have great story telling abilities to draw people in. 4- Yes I get criticism, but hey doesn’t everyone? One person even put as a review on my book Disaster “Twister rip off” I found that funny because the cover has twisters, so does the book however it’s based off of a scientific principal of string theory/M theory; monopoles and heated tornados….nothing like the movie Twister. I was curious if the person made it passed the cover? If interested for reference my books can be found here http://tinyurl.com/kxgbb5b , there are a few that do not show up on that page: titles such as Ann Marie’s Inn?; The League of One; a couple others including my newest Galaxy 30: Time Collides. For those just search my name on amazon.com. Oh and yes I am working on retooling my own website right now it is a work in progress…I’ll post it when it’s finished. I have used three pen names in the past Bergen/AJ or A.J. Maes and my name Kyle Williamson I have eleven through AmericaStar/Publish America those are also listed on amazon.com. Thank you for your assistance Kyle Williamson

You can sell the film rights to a novel, although that usually takes a literary agent.
Thank you Eric

Write a treatment see how it feels. You may not be the person to do your boom justice. Go find the BAFTA lecture by Emma Thompson she talks about adapting. YouTube or BAFTA podcast has it.
Craig, thanks much appreciated I'll check those out
Thanks Dougie

Novels are usually bought for the screen as novels.

Sort of two routes, in my experience: 1; a very popular book is simply optioned, no problems: 2) adapt the book yourself and sell it as a screenplay. Basically, there are waaaay too many sorta-popular books in the world to ever catch the eye of a busy film exec. You need to do the eye-catching yourself somehow. Good luck.
Glenn Delvin I'll take a look at your novel, thanks....William thank you, as well as thank you Rich

FYI, Hollywood studios and larger production companies retain book scouts. These scouting professionals are typically based in NY and paid over 5-figures per month to put together weekly memos of books that might be adapted for film/TV. They get early looks at manuscripts, attend international book fairs, network with publishing agents, etc. It's a very significant business.
Regina Lee, thank you. I have done three book promotions through my publisher AmericaStar for some of my books to both HBO and NBC. However I'd like to do some myself. Wonder if I could bounce one of the treatments I just done off somebody for feedback
Dan Guardino let me know where I can send one of the treatments to for you to see. so far I've only done two of my thirty books
