1000 action verbs - an article by me for you

Hi, guys! I wrote this article for BlueCat's website this week and thought you might like it too. It's a list of alternatives to mundane verbs like "walk," "run," "put," "take." Enjoy! It's gotten more than 500 social media shares in one week, so it must be doing something right. :-) BlueCat Article: 1000 Words to Write By

Deanna,

Thank you for sharing this. It will definitely come in handy.

Deanna Carlyle

You're welcome! I just fixed the link. It should work now.

Jeff Langham

Yep, me too. I need all the help I can get!!

Martina Cook

Haha! Posted your link last week! Never realised you were here...great article! Thanks for writing it :)

Deanna Carlyle

Kewl. Thanks, Martina. Waving from across a continent and a pond.

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

Deanna: Nice work!

C Harris Lynn

Yeah, great work! I love reference works. Probably half of my library is reference. Martina shared this and it was a hit. I bookmarked it. Thanks so much! :)

Martina Cook

I see you Deanna! And wave back :)

Mario Rivas

Thank you!

Doug Nelson

...and no adverbs!

Beth Fox Heisinger

Aaargh!... Adverbs are their function, not just an "ly" ending. Lol! ;)

Bill Costantini

Nice work there, Deanna - I also like your piece about book royalties. You should post a link to that in the Authoring section.

Good Luck and Happy Writing, Deanna, and All!

What are some other good article topics along these lines? I'm thinking of doing one on action verbs to tighten setting descriptions: E.g., A building can ... span, surround, border, etc. Light can ... glow, flicker, stream, cast, sweep, etc.

Doug Nelson

You've gone to a lot of work/trouble to put your list together; it's nicely done. Action verbs to tighten settings is a very important and needed writer thinking skill. You got a script going? I'd like to see how you're applying this approach - and I'm sure others would too. Why don't you post a scene as a working example?

C Harris Lynn

An expansive list of facial expressions and general body language would be indispensable! Thanks. :)

Martina Cook

I would love a list of the most common American expressions and what they mean, like "Kewl"...I had to google that! :)

That's a great reference- may be you should expand on it and produce it a s a small pocket book.

Martina Cook

Thanks John!
