If you shot the footage, how is it fake? Creating the images is an end unto itself. Those images being used in a picture of some sort puts them to use where the whole should be greater than the parts, but it does not change the art and craft of the individual shots themselves. If you created the art, its yours.
Plenty of people do this. it isn't FAKE it's merely reel pieces. It's the only way you can get clearly branded, all-you style pieces. I never did it, but agents encourage it of their clients. Many times you cannot get your best work from others who control it. Or you need specifics- a macro montage for instance.

I completely agree, if you produced it than its your creativity, style, and art. More you than anything done for someone else's production.

My first reel was 3 test shots that i shot in school but ever since then everything's been from content since thats where my best work is.
