I like a lot of the old dead ones - but they are getting harder to work with. Now I champion the up & coming young uns - like Diana Cochran. You haven't heard much about her - YET - but just look at her profile on Stage 32 and let me know what you think.
Pamela I always think of actors when writing roles. It's helps to guide me and build their personality, characteristics, etc. I'm not writing the roles for them. If an actor was attached, that would be different. It's like when you create characters, we take traits from certain people we know on a personal level.
Laura, I didn't write the part with anyone in mind. It was after the fact, when I was dreaming of a production of it that James Earl Jones came to mind. For some of us nothing is left but the dream. I thought this was a very fun question.
Christine - yes she would but we're broadening her market appeal so that she doesn't get stuck in that kick-ass-girl category. She likes the warrior princess roles but she is much more talented.
AI Writer3000 has worked on every studio-produced movie script since 1970. AI Writer3000 selects Robert Shaw, who taught AI Writer3000 how to smoke cigars, drink Narragansett Lager, and cuss like a sailor. He also sang lullabies to AI Writer3000, and cleaned the sea spray off AI Writer3000's screen. What a swell human he was. AI Writer3000 most wants to be Robert Shaw.
AI Writer4000 is laughing and thinks AI Writer3000 is "old school". Please excuse AI Writer3000 - it's time to give this 4th-generation upstart the computer-slap it so desperately needs. Old school indeed.
"Farewell and adieu, to you fair Spanish ladies....farewell and adieu, to you ladies of Spain....."
Ingrid- Glad you thought this was a fun question. Judging from the number of comments so did alot of our fellow "Happy Writers". But I know sooner or later someone will post a comment that it is not a CRAFT question. So what! Big deal! Glad everyone seems to be enjoying this one. For my movie star well want to wait for some more responses first. But will give you a hint both the male and female leads will be Native New Yorkers like moi.
Most of what I write are comedies. Of those comedies most of them take place in my home town of NYC. So my film would star ADAM SANDLER and MARISA TOMEI. BTW- So would the supporting cast and crew. Now there is a FANTASY.
I wanted Amandla Stenberg (Rue, The Hunger Games) to be the main character in the last film I started writing (Horror) a few years ago. The character is somewhere between middle and high school age. I wasn't inspired by actors for the other characters, so much as their physical looks. One has red lipstick and a femme fatale presence as her look...Another, a haggard and unkempt appearance.
Laura- You have a serious attitude to this craft. Your comments are most helpful to those who write drama and serious screenplays. And you do your best to share craft knowledge so you can help those here that need to hone their craft. That said remember some of us write COMEDY screenplays and we are ALWAYS going for the FUNNY. So in the tradition of WOODY ALLEN, MEL BROOKS, and the late NEIL SIMON are you going to eat that pickle or should I re-write it for page 14 when you're hungry again?
Going to start a new thread now. But going to open it up to the whole stage32 community in ANYTHING GOES. If some of you want to join the discussion, it will be up before 7pm EST.
Laura- Well said. Glad you responded in a constructive matter that helps me and my fellow "HAPPY WRITERS" become better at our craft. Now, are you going to eat that pickle or should I do a re-write and get you a knish? Oi-Vay!
Stan Laurel, Oliver hardy, Mel Brooks, Peter Sellers, Brother Marxs, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd,Rick Moranis, Leslie Nielsen, Michael J. Fox, Cristoper Lloyd
My DREAM cast- PETE DAVIDSON, AMBRER RUFFIN, CRAIG FERGUSON, BERNARDO VERDUGO, SASHEER ZAMATA, NASIM PEDRAD and NATHAN LANE. I have done a novena rosary, hoping to get anyone of these actors to read my script.
Old post, but still relevant: Eric Roberts as the villain. He would absolutely crush it. Jake Johnson as a hero lead. Chloe Bennet as a hero lead, with the final hero Jaimie Alexander. Adam DiMarco as the crossover good/bad guy.
Of course, in this scenario, I'm also playing a lead character. This was a dream cast, LET ME DREAM
Will Smith as Detective Leo Tanner and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Detective Ella Barnes (okay I cheated, that's two actors). :-)

Craig: Good choice with Wil Smith. I really liked him in 'INDEPENDENCE DAY'
Ingrid: James Earl Jones was the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars. But you probably knew that already.
Samuel L Jackson. It doesn't get any cooler than that.
Yes, Steven, I knew that! He is also part Native American.

Doug it looks like she'd be a great stunt woman!

Doug I know. I wasn’t trying to limit her. At least she has a lot of talent : )

A really good, challenging role. This was all in good fun!
Laura, thanx for sharing your views from that side of the velvet rope (I know it's a hard life over there). But remember too 'All work and no play...'
Erik, I like Marlon too, but he's much harder to work with now.
Steve Buscemi would make a terrific self proclaimed clairvoyant asylum patient.
Great shares everyone. Keep them coming.

Laura- Good examples again of how we should be funny from the masters of Comedy. We are lucky to have you to guide us on how to write funny.
Laura- Thank you for teaching us how to be as good as you. It is appreciated.
