Introduce Yourself : Hi :) by Mike Miller

Mike Miller

Hi :)

I'm new to the site and the lounge. Hello everyone. I look forward to meeting you and swapping Hollywood war stories. I started in advertising as an art director and creative director at Young & Rubicam in Sydney... yes, I'm an Aussie, and then Y&R New York. Transitioned to directing (and DP) on top-end TV commercials with my own company and now working on my feature and TV projects and living in Los Angeles. Yes, I have one or two great war stories. Including competing with Michael Bay for an action drama series. My first screenplay SHADOWMAN has won a dozen awards. Half as first place. The majority of the others as finalist. I've had great people attached. Rob Barnum loved it and wanted to finance it, but couldn't get the traction with his partners. Tim Moore from Malpaso came on board and wanted to help. The film has not been financed to date. I've learned that the market just doesn't get excited about dramas. I have a couple of documentary projects and feature and series projects. It's a long road isn't it :) But, I love what I do. My website is http://writer-director.com please check it out. I'm looking for a writer's group to join. Looking for paid work as a writer and a director. I look forward to getting to know you. Cheers.

Hi Mike! Regards from Helsinki, Finland. Some of us are bold enough to be Hollywood Trojan Horses even from the other side of the world :-)

Mike Miller

Yes quite true. However, I'm in Los Angeles. been here for 18 years. Hope it is all going well for you.

Hey Mike! I spent some great years with Y&R in London, so I know your work will be of the highest quality (did you cross paths with Joe de Deo? Great guy). Wishing you every success!

Mike Miller

Hey Sean, thanks for reaching out. I did know Joe and considered him a friend. he was running Australia when I joined Y&R in Sydney. Hung out with him in London when we were passing through on our way to New York office. Great guy. Very sad to lose him so young. Are you still in London?

Sean Kelly

I’m in the north east now; my daughter is in London so I get there as often as I can (when the world is straight)! I had the pleasure of Joe’s company at a Y&R Christmas party in the late 1980’s and just recently I happened across the letter he sent me afterwards.

I’m impressed that you’re having success with competitions! I’ve only tried a few times and though I’ve had some decent feedback I’ve never broken through. Not sure if that’s because my best scripts so far are set in England or Ireland rather than the US, but I’m working my way up to some marquee ideas.

Be good to stay in touch!
