Screenwriting : Proper Format? by Bill Lonero

Proper Format?

When you're writing a scene heading which is the proper format?

INT. Police Station - Conference Room - Afternoon

or

INT. Police Station/Conference Room - Afternoon

Thank you

Eric Christopherson

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

CONFERENCE ROOM

Here I'm using a mini slug below the main slug. This approach is useful particularly when you have more than one scene inside the main locale, or in this case the police station. I think you're only supposed to use DAY or NIGHT rather than AFTERNOON, etc. I think the reason has to do with lighting.

Personally I use a slash, but minor detail like that really doesn't matter. I see all kinds of things in the scripts that I edit but unless it's really wrong, and inconsistent, I tend to leave it.

Thanks everyone! And I don't know why I typed "Afternoon". I know the expected wording is "DAY" or "NIGHT" only.
