Stand Up Comedy

looking for any information about anyone that has aired the whole story of the comedy world

Dan MaxXx

Stand up Comedy world in America? What is the whole story?

Gerry Barrett

CNN produced and aired a series titled, "The History of Comedy". I'm a Stand up comic myself and I enjoyed the program.

Tru Entertainment

Dan MaxXx, we're looking to share the story on how the unknown up and coming comic does not get any support.

Gerry Barrett "The History of Comedy" did not introduce us to any Comedian that we did not already know.

Why not?

Gerry Barrett

Like a Top 40 radio station CNN only wanted to feature the hits - the successful comics that made it. Perhaps, "The History of Comedians Who Almost Made It" is a separate documentary altogether. I worked in comedy clubs for years with some amazing talents. About some of them I thought...this person's going to be super-famous...you know, get a sit-com or a breakout movie deal...then... nothing. Why some get famous and some do not: perhaps it's timing (the right place at the right time) perhaps it's who you know, perhaps lack of motivation - they're satisfied with the club circuit, perhaps life throws them a wicked curve and they don't have the strength to pursue to the next level. In any case there have been and are many stand ups' out there that should have made it bigger than they did.

Gerry....do you have a copy of my idea?

that is exactly what I'm talking about. radio has Payola in one way or the other it is not as blatant as it use to be nonetheless pay to play is still there . any real stand up comic that loves the stage would rather earn enough money to cover all of their expenses making people laugh in person at comedy clubs. would you agree?

Gerry Barrett

Telling your story about your experience in the world of stand-up comedy would make an interesting and entertaining documentary. Fans of stand-up comedy and stand-up comics alike would find it fun, dramatic and entertaining I'm sure. I am/was a big fan of two recent series on the topic of "making it" in the world of stand-up, "Crashing", starring Pete Holmes, and "I'm Dying Up Here", as seen on Showtime. Both faithfully depict the reality of performing stand-up from amateur open mics to professional road gigs. As a veteran stand-up comic, I sold out years ago and now do mostly cushy, corporate gigs. I'm currently writing a screenplay with two stand-up comics as the lead characters. Cheers.
