Best way to denote music

What is the best way to denote music playing in the background during a scene? I have a particular song I want to include in the scene and it will be in the background as my protagonist is looking out of the window.

Thank you

William Martell

If the song is 100 years old, not a problem.

if it's more recent, most likely the music supervisor will select a song from the music label of the entertainment conglomerate that owns the studio in order to promote their artist or the composer for the film will write an original song that allows them to be eligible for the Best Original Song Oscar.

Music is not the screenwriters department.

You can say something like, A melancholy pop song plays as he looks out the back window at the setting sun.
