Financing / Crowdfunding : Developement money by Edward Morrisseey

Developement money

I have a couple screenplays that already have been accepted by a producer, What he has offered is a firm deal but not one I really like. I thought if I got some development money and had options i could get a better agreement. Does crowd funding work, are there people that do that for you? What does that cost.

Edward Morrisseey Without knowing more, it's hard to give you any kind of opinion. But if anyone is willing to buy your work, you are already ahead of 75% of screenwriters in a very competitive industry, There is a time to ask for more and a time to jump at a deal. This sounds like the latter. As for crowdfunding... it's a very long, arduous and intensive journey and it costs money as well.

You need the advice of an entertainment attorney. But first, check the track record of the producer on IMDBpro and, if possible, talk to the screenwriters of his last couple films.

I agree with Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg ... crowdfunding is tough and I've only done it for shorts. Congrats on garnering that level of interest in your work! And, yes you should definitely speak with an attorney and research your producer's track record to make sure that your work will actually get made with a really good possibility, at least, of being distributed (if you accept this producer's offer that is.)
