Screenwriting : General question.. by Decedric Williams

General question..

Hello Community! I hope everyone and your loved ones are doing well and staying safe. What is a reasonable number of pages for a script to be a feature film? I’m just needing some clarification on that because I’ve researched and have found several different answers. I’ll write as many as needed but just wondering. Thanks! :-)

There is no set page count for how long a feature screenplay should be, but generally speaking, your spec scripts should be between 110 and 120 pages.

The rule of thumb with screenplays is that one page equals one minute of screen time. Of course, this is not an exact science, nor do all movies run between 110 and 120 minutes, but as a novice, keeping your screenplays in this range will help give them a more professional feel.

I tell my students to aim for 100 pages in today's market. In reality, anything - depending on genre - in the 90 to 110 page range is okay. The general sweet spot is about 100 - 105 pages. Another consideration is the action/dialog ratio. There is no specific answer to your question.

Thank you both for the feedback! You have no idea how that helped! ( or maybe you do LOL)

Here's a little advice got from the many great people on this site...read scripts that are similar to the script you're writing. You can watch like movies as well.

Right you are Dan Guardino.

I have a film in production in NYC which I sold at 75 pages.

But if you start at 90 as a feature you are okay. Less is more. In my opinion it gives space for collaboration. Which always happens.

US/UK - 90-120 depending on the genre, Europe (most of) whatever you see fit, Asia/Pacific and Africa - unknown grounds :)
