Producing : Talk Show Pitch Format by Brian Kelsey

Talk Show Pitch Format

Wondered if anyone had advice on putting together the written portion of a talk show pitch. I’ve been actually doing the show for about 6 months, and while I’m sure showing the episodes are helpful, I’d like to put together a complete, formal pitch. I know the general format for a television series pitch (plot, characters, episodes, etc) but how is that translated to the talk show format? Is it generally the same?

Wow, what spectacular timing! Did you see we JUST had a webinar on writing for Late Night TV? https://www.stage32.com/webinars/Breaking-Into-Late-Night-TV-as-a-Writer After learning how to script podcasts, I'm thinking you should include: a clear mission statement for the talk show, who you will be talking to and what about, who your audience is and what value your show brings to them, why you/why now, comps/differences, and then maybe a little about distribution - it would be helpful to know if you intend this to be live streaming or pre-recorded.

As for pitch structure, if the Stage 32 Pitching Guidebook doesn't help (https://www.stage32.com/sites/stage32.com/themes/two/pdfs/happy-writers/...), maybe you could try this webinar on pitching Unscripted/Reality material: https://www.stage32.com/webinars/The-Business-of-Unscripted-Reality-TV-a...

There's also been a more recent one about how to pitch an unscripted series to a streaming network: https://www.stage32.com/webinars/How-to-Develop-Pitch-and-Hopefully-Prod...

I hope that helps, and let us know how it comes together!
